In the Community

Since Sportscover was first established we have recognised the importance of supporting grass roots sport. Sport is a central part of most communities and provides a number of social and personal benefits. So we feel that it is right for us to provide help in a number of ways. Here are just some of the ways in which we are involved in giving back to sport.
 

Risk management

We help our clients to make sure that the risk of loss is minimised as far as possible so that their insurance premiums are kept as low as possible. Many of the things that clubs and associations can do to minimise risk are simple and relatively easy. But it requires a structured and disciplined approach to make sure that these procedures are adhered to. Touchline

Our free on-line magazine on sport and risk with an international perspective is published four times a year. Education

We are happy to share our extensive knowledge of sport and risk management to sports clubs and associations or to educational establishments. Sponsorship Grants - Sportscover Sponsorship Fund

Sportscover's desire to assist community sports led to the creation of the Sportscover Sponsorship Fund (SSF) as an avenue to sponsor a wide variety of amateur sports men and women, striving to achieve sporting greatness across a broad cross-section of sports. Over the last few years, the SSF has donated over $50,000 in $1000 grants to grass-roots sporting clubs and associations.

Welsh Hockey Union and Sarah Thomas

Sportscover Europe is proud to sponsor the Welsh Hockey Union who have had great success in recent times, as has been demonstrated in the selection of Sarah Thomas to the Great Britain squad competing at the Beijing Olympics.

Sarah, the only female Welsh representative in the GB squad, has come through the ranks from starting at the tender age of 12 and has represented Wales at U16 to senior level. Sarah currently plays her club hockey for Rotterdam in the Netherlands.

With Sportscover's support as her main sponsor Sarah has been able to maintain her pre Olympic training at Bisham Abbey with the rest of the GB squad, competing in the various warm up matches and tours ready for the biggest summer of her life.

Team Sportscover - Cycling

Sportscover has been involved in cycling for many years, running a professional team in Australia and sponsoring several national teams such as the United Kingdom and New Zealand, in the Commonwealth Bank Cycle Classic road race between 1994 and 1998.

Team members have included riders such as English champions John Tanner (British Olympian) and Chris Lillywhite, 1998 Commonwealth Games Gold Medallist Australian Jay Sweet and the Hong Kong star and mountain climbing specialist Kam-po Wong.

Sportscover Cycle Racing Team was re launched in 2007 and is a mix of vast experience and emerging talent. In spite of their impressive palmares the team are very ambitious and enthusiastic, targeting the Premier calendar series of events and the National Road Championships in the UK and Europe.

Team Sportscover's current lineup includes Ashley Brown, Gavin Evans, Hamish Batchelor, Dieter Droger, Kevin Dawson and defending North East road race champion, Collin Humphrey.

Team Sportscover are preparing for their 4th season and with continuous improvement, expectations are high for 2010. With over 60 race victories, their success goes beyond road racing with the team competing in time trials, criteriums, track and mountain bike races around the world, which has been reflected in the interest expressed in our team by the media.

Year on year our team has demonstrated continuous development both in their results and team spirit - success is set to continue through 2010 and beyond. With a unique mix of Olympians, Commonwealth athletes and British record holders racing and training among emerging talent and junior potential we creat the perfect environment for growth.

The 2009 season saw the start of our Youth Development Programme, with four Yourkshire Juniors competing in a raft of events across the United Kingdom. In only their first season racing, a number of victories and podium places were scored along the way, ensuring the quality that proceeds our team name is carried through to the junior ranks.

Our senior riders have had their most successful season to date with numerous victories and podium placings in stage races, on the road, time trial and mountain bike events in the UK, Spain, Ireland, France, Canada and Switzerland.

This success has not gone un-noticed, with regular coverage on Eurosport, in the cycling and national press has refelcted. Each season our team features in 4-6 page articles covering all aspects of the team from kit, races and training routs to team dynamics and training methods.

We owe our exposure to the experienced riders and the enthusiasm brought to the team by the younger members who are hungry for race wins and their time on the podium.

In 2010 the team have set ambitious but achievable goals for each rider. As a team they are:

Senior Race Team

• To win two premiere calendar events in 2010.
• To continue our diverse racing programme.
• To gain top 10 placings in UCI sanctioned international events.
• To develop first year senior 'talent'.

Youth Development Programme

• To place one of our team on the Olympic Development Plan within 12 months.
• To place a rider in the top 10 in every single race and continue team work.
• To learn essential bike maintenance and repair skills.

VAFA

After over a decade of involvement with the Victorian Amateur Football Association (VAFA), Sportscover Australia is proud to become the 'Sole Major Sponsor' of this amateur football association once again supporting grass roots sport in our community. In addition, Sportscover has naming rights to 'Sportscover Arena' - Home of the VAFA, formerly Main Oval Elsternwick Park.
